Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has committed to meeting the high market demand for artificial intelligence processors in Japan. This comes as Japan works to rebuild its once leading semiconductor industry and catch up in AI technology advancement.
During his visit to Tokyo, Huang assured reporters at Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s official residence that Nvidia will prioritize Japan’s requirements for GPUs. The commitment follows Japan’s recent allocation of about 2 trillion yen ($13.60 billion) for chip investment.
Part of these funds are expected to support Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC and chip foundry venture Rapidus, with a focus on manufacturing cutting-edge chips in Japan’s northern Hokkaido island.
Huang expressed his confidence in Japan’s semiconductor industry and emphasized the need for countries to have control over their data, build their own AI factories, and produce their own AI intelligence.
