WhatsApp Announces Launch of View-Once Photos and Videos for Desktop and Web Apps

WhatsApp has added a new feature to its desktop and web applications that enables users to send photos and videos that can only be viewed once before being deleted. This feature was previously available only on the mobile app but has now been reintroduced to the desktop and web versions of WhatsApp. The company is rolling out the “view once” option for photos and videos on Windows, macOS, and linked devices like iPads. Eligible users are already receiving the update, while others can expect it to be available soon once their applications are updated to the latest versions.

The decision to bring back this feature was prompted by user feedback, despite initial security concerns that led to its removal. Users found the “view once” feature to be beneficial as it allowed them to view media files without occupying the storage space on their phones. In addition to this update, WhatsApp has made changes to its backup functionality on Android and added a prompt for users to add their email addresses as a secondary identifier for their accounts.

Through these enhancements, WhatsApp aims to provide a more secure and efficient messaging experience for its users, ensuring that they can manage their media and data effectively while making the most of the app’s privacy features.
