Remember the old days when all the computing power was remote and the desktop became where power lived? Today, we’re moving back to remote computing and from the PC to cloud-based Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) offerings such as Windows 365.
Windows App, which is still in beta, will let you connect to Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Microsoft Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services, and remote PCs from pretty much any computing device including Macs, iPhones, iPads, other Windows machines, and web browsers. This means you can run Windows from Linux-powered PCs, Chromebooks, and Android phones and tablets.
Microsoft has been planning to move Windows to the cloud for years now, and Windows App will make it easier than ever. You’ll be able to use Windows remotely via browsers using ancient versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge as long as your web browser supports HTML5.
Windows App will enable you to use multiple services and PCs from one screen and use multiple monitors with custom and dynamic display resolutions and scaling. It’s important to note, though, that Windows App is currently in PREVIEW and may be substantially modified before it’s released.
This move to remote computing is an interesting development, and although it is the future of Windows, it might not be suitable for production use at the moment.
