Apple has finally released iOS 17.1, which includes a variety of bug fixes and new features such as AirDrop, StandBy, and more. While many of these features were already known, their exact details and release date were uncertain until now. Let’s take a closer look at what Apple has in store for iPhone users.

iOS 17.1 features

The update brings several improvements and bug fixes that will greatly enhance the user experience. One of the major highlights is the upgrade to Apple Music and enhancements to AirDrop.

  • Apple Music Upgrades: iOS 17.1 introduces the ability to ‘favorite’ songs, albums, and playlists. The Music app now offers new filtering options to easily display your favorites. Additionally, a library of artwork is available for customizing your playlists. Intelligent song suggestions are also provided at the bottom of your playlists to match the mood of the playlist.
  • Enhanced AirDrop Features: The update improves AirDrop by allowing transfers to continue over the internet even when devices move out of range. Users can now use cellular data in addition to Wi-Fi for AirDrop transfers.
  • Apple Wallet Features: Users in the United Kingdom now have access to Connected Cards, which display bank account balances and transaction history. In the U.S., this feature is available through a direct partnership with Discover, with more banks expected to be added in the future.
  • StandBy Mode improvements: A new ‘Display’ section has been added to StandBy settings. It provides customization options, allowing users to automatically turn off the display after 20 seconds or keep it on indefinitely. The Display section also includes the night mode feature, which shows the StandBy display with a red tint and low ambient lighting. The Motion to Wake option has also been relocated here.
  • Flashlight Indicator in Dynamic Island: iPhone 14 Pro users can now enjoy the flashlight indicator feature, which was initially introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro.
  • Photo Shuffle on Lock Screen: iOS 17.1 addresses a long-standing issue with the Photo Shuffle feature on the Lock Screen. Users can now select a specific album for the Photo Shuffle.
  • Other bug fixes: The update includes fixes for improved Home key support for Matter locks, enhanced reliability for Screen Time settings syncing across devices, and resolves issues related to custom ringtones and keyboard responsiveness.

Furthermore, Apple has also released the iPadOS 17.1 update for iPads, which includes similar feature upgrades.

Apple iOS 17.1 brings exciting new features and improvements to the iPhone user experience. From enhancing Apple Music and AirDrop to introducing StandBy mode improvements and resolving bugs, Apple is committed to providing a seamless user experience. The addition of the flashlight indicator, improved Photo Shuffle, and other enhancements further contribute to making iOS 17.1 a noteworthy update. With constant innovation and attention to user feedback, Apple continues to solidify its position in the tech industry.
