Canva Enhances AI Capabilities, Offering Copyright Protection for AI-Generated Images

Visual communication company Canva has introduced an “all-in-one AI design offering” called Magic Studio, which aims to provide tailored design-focused AI tools and technology for businesses. This comes after Canva added AI-powered design tools to its Visual Worksuite six months ago, with over 3 billion uses since then.

Magic Studio includes over 10 new AI tools for users. One of them is Magic Design, which enables Canva users to generate videos, presentations, and complete designs from a single text prompt. Another tool is Magic Switch, which converts designs into different formats, such as turning presentations into executive summaries or blog posts, and allows content to be translated into over 100 languages.

Other features include Magic Media, which turns text into engaging photos, and Gen-2, a video generation AI model by Runway that creates videos from images or text. Magic Morph instantly transforms words and shapes into new colors, textures, patterns, and styles, while Magic Expand saves zoomed-in images or converts vertical shots into horizontal ones.

Magic Grab allows users to select and separate any subject in a photo for editing, repositioning, or resizing. Additionally, Canva has launched Magic Write, a copywriting assistant that enables users to write content in their brand’s tone of voice, ensuring that it remains on-brand.

In addition to the new AI capabilities in Magic Studio, Canva has also expanded its application marketplace to provide customers with access to various AI tools, including Dall-E, Imagen by Google Cloud, MurfAI, Soundraw, and more.

Canva has also introduced a new security product called Canva Shield, which offers trust, safety, and privacy controls for teams and organizations. Canva Shield provides enterprise customers with copyright indemnification for AI-generated images, similar to the approach taken by Adobe and Shutterstock. This gives organizations peace of mind when creating content with AI.

To reinforce its commitment to transparency, Canva will invest $200 million over the next three years to compensate creators for the use of their data in AI training. Creators have the choice to opt out of their data being used for training purposes, and those who opt in will receive initial bonus payments and ongoing monthly payments based on factors such as the level of contribution to the content library and the number of times it has been used.

Cameron Adams, Canva’s co-founder and chief product officer, believes that democratizing design through AI will have a positive impact by allowing non-designers to have better conversations with graphic designers and bring their ideas to life more quickly and with better quality.
