Police Arrest Peaceful Demonstrators in Haryana as Work Education Instructors’ Demands Go Unheard – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: The work education instructors, who were planning to protest peacefully in front of the Shiksha Sadan, were forcefully taken into custody by the police on Monday. They were later released at an unknown location on Yamunanagar road. During the arrest, a female instructor’s health deteriorated.
Work Education Instructors, who have been working in various government schools in Haryana since August 2014, were protesting behind Shiksha Sadan, Sector-5 Panchkula since June 22. They were demanding to be covered by the Council’s By Laws 2013. These instructors belong to music, singing, tabla, fine art, drama, and dance categories. Four of the protesters even went on a fast unto death starting from August 2.
Rajesh Khullar, ACS, took notice of the protest and promised a quick solution to the demands. As a result, the fast unto death was ended. However, no further action was taken.
Distressed by the lack of progress, the Work Education Instructors decided to shave their heads in front of Shiksha Sadan on August 28. However, when they came out for the demonstration, the police arrested them and transported them to Yamuna Nagar. On the way, Sangeeta from Hisar fell ill.
Rajat Bhatt, president of Work Education Instructors Association, expressed his frustration stating that the administration is not allowing them to present their demands to the Chief Minister.
“Where can we go if the government also ignores us like this? The anger among work education instructors is increasing. If any unfortunate incident happens to any of our colleagues, the education department will be held fully responsible. We demand that Work Education Instructors be given the same benefits as other employees of Samagra Shiksha, including By Laws 2013 and grade pay,” he said.
Rajat Bhatt from Kurukshetra, Deep Kumar from Panipat, Sangeeta Devi from Hisar, Sunil Kumar from Jind, Sunil Kumar from Sirsa, Paramjit Mann from Ambala, and other colleagues were also present during the protest.
Sangeeta Devi from Hisar had to be admitted to the Community Health Center, Mullana, due to ill health on the way during the protest.

Unique Perspective: Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, it is unfortunate to see the police resort to forceful measures and arrest the demonstrators. It is essential for authorities to listen to the demands of the work education instructors and address their concerns promptly. By giving attention and resolution to these issues, a more harmonious and productive environment can be established for both the instructors and the education system as a whole.
